Sheila and Bob Harris graciously hosted a BBQ for a small contingent
of Catalina's class of '68, shown above. The get-together was held at
the Harris's home in Northeast Tucson.
Regan and her two daughters flew in from Gardena, Ca. for the event,
my youngest daughter and I drove down from Phoenix, Barbara and Bruce
live in Tucson. Bob and Sheila's son and daughter rounded out the group.
We grilled burgers and sampled a very interesting desert that Regan's
older sister made for us. If my memory and taste buds are correct, it
contained chocolate and sour cream layered between flour tortillas.
We shared high school memories and swapped stories around the dinner
table, boring our offspring. We even tortured them by playing an oldies
station.
After dinner Regan, Barbara and the Harrises watched some home movies
while Bruce and I sat outside enjoying the night air, talking about
sports, how much Tucson has grown and agreeing that one of these days
we both needed to stop smoking.
Later in the evening we all sat in the family room critiquing movies.
The funny thing, and what made the session so enjoyable, was that many
times we couldn't remember either the title or the plot line of the
movie we were discussing.
We finished the evening in the kitchen with Bob and Barbara talking
about their jogging regimens, while Maklin and I talked about losing
weight, getting into shape, heart conditions and gout.
I can't speak for the others, but I had a great time. These are people
I enjoyed being with in high school and I wish that I'd kept in closer
contact with them over the past 30 years. If they'll let me, I intend
to see more of them over the next 30 years.
